Puddlegum Studio and Plans for 2022

by | Jan 3, 2022 | News, Puddlegum.Studio

My floors are covered with cables; XLR cables, RCA, quarter inch instrument cables, you name it. I have out outboard gear laying around, from several Lexicon effect units, to a stacked 500 series unit lunchbox, laying around with headphones. A few miles from here, the wooden studio floor is being sanded.

This is the start of 2022. Last year was one where I focused on creating content in support of artists. I spent countless hours listening to music, searching for songs that I connect with. I tried new things, some of which worked and others didn’t.

As 2021 developed, so did my vision. My goal was to move toward expanding the blog as a full-blown recording studio (both co-existing and supporting the other). More and more opportunities to mix music came my way, many unexpectedly. Most of the work in 2021 hasn’t been released yet, but they will be in the coming months. And so Puddlegum Studio began to take shape, without the space being secured.

Details have come into focus, and the studio space became available. Puddlegum Studio will be located at 213 South Rogers Street, Suite 8, in Bloomington, Indiana (47404). The space will literally be down the hall from Secretly Group (Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans).

Puddlegum Studio will be a boutique hybrid record studio. What does that mean? It means it’s a small and intimate room that blends outboard gear with hundreds of great plugins. I’ll work in Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reason, etc (though I will work primarily in Pro Tools). Plugins range from the legendary Universal Audio’s plugins (utilizing an Apollo Twin X), SSL’s immaculate plugins, Waves’ best offerings, to others such as Lexicon, Maag, and Roland.

I’m setting the studio up with the bedroom pop artist in mind. I will be using the room to mix in, and for recording projects. But I also want to have artists come in and record in solitude if they prefer. I want this to be a space worth traveling to (or stopping at during a tour). I want it to be a place artists will call home.

With all of this said, I am back to the blog. I had to take a break for a couple months due to personal things that demanded my attention.

In the next few days, I will be slowly setting the studio up. Not only will it be a place to create and support creative artists, but it will also be a place where I will blog. I plan on re-launching the podcast but with more focus.

Jon Morrow releases sophomore single ‘I’m No One’

Jon Morrow is a songwriter from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, writing dreamy and personal songs. He uses a drum machine, which sounds like a beat from an old Casio (that’s a positive), a looping electric guitar running through a tremolo or vibey chorus pedal, and layers of vocals and harmonies with a high pass filter applied.
