Stevie Nel is a bedroom pop songwriter who blends washed out guitar tones with drum loops, and whispery auto-tuned vocals. He released a new EP called We Were Once Wildflowers today, comprised of three chill tracks.

The EP opens with a fluid sounding synth that lays a rich foundation to the song, Austin. A warm and melancholic guitar melody with a drum loop follows. “Try to take my mind off you,” Stevie quietly sings. The song nearly flows directly into the second track, Pheromones, which was released as a single on August 20. Lavinia closed the EP with a doubled acoustic guitar, singing “Don’t say goodbye, just say goodnight.”

The EP is one of longing, with the three songs tracking under nine minutes. It’s one that leaves you wanting more. This is Stevie Nel’s third three song EP of 2021, having released You Know Where to Find Me and The Stars Are Watching Us earlier this year. The beats he uses and vocal approach tie these EPs together nicely.
