NEWDad drops ‘Ladybird’ single and video

NewDad – ‘Ladybird‘ (YouTube)

Irish band NewDad has a new single and music video called Ladybird, out through Fair Youth. The song has lofi post-rock vibes, produced by Chris Ryan, and mixed by John Congleton (he produced Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Remind Me Tomorrow‘). The song is simple, with a roomy sound, distorted amps, and a twelve string electric guitar. This is a nice jam that will continue the band’s forward momentum.

The music video was directed by Hugh Mulhern and a full team of fifteen people. In it, the band, Julie Dawson, Sean O’Dowd, Fiachra Parslow, and Áindle O’Beirn perform the song, with intermixed scenes of couples interacting and discussing their relationship. Julie sings, “It’s half-past three, and you’re not thinking of me. This isn’t how I thought it would be.”

Honeywhip releases ‘Pineapple Cloud’ single

Honeywhip released a bedroom pop groove called ‘Pineapple Cloud‘. The track was produced entirely by Honeywhip and self-released. They have been dropping singles since January, 2020. These songs are bops, guitar grooves, synth tones, and saturated vocals.

The group started in Tokyo and relocated to Los Angeles, all while releasing eleven singles. According to an interview they did with The Luna Collective, they track with a Telecaster, a Fender P Bass, a Juno 106 synth, and Yamaha DX7 keys. Their songs have drawn over 2.3 million streams on Spotify.

TOPS release ‘Waiting’ single

TOPS – Waiting (YouTube)

TOPS released a single, ‘Waiting‘, as the Montréal band continues a month-long tour across the United States. This is their second 2021 single; ‘Party Again‘ came out in July. David Dean Burkhart was quick to post the song the moment it came out. The band shared this on Instagram about the single:

“Waiting” is another song we wrote last summer in Montreal, with Riley doing his parts all the way down in LA. It’s been one of our favorites to play live so far, and we can’t wait to keep playing it for ya!

The new song has a downtempo and clean sound, trailing reverb on the vocals, and clean guitar tones. David Carriere floats between rhythm guitar carrying the song, and sprinkling lead guitar melodies throughout. Jane Penny‘s vocals are delicate and perfectly performed. Marta Cikojevic‘s synth tones are subtle, and Riley Fleck‘s drums are simple and selective.

Tame Werewolf: Chillwave from Iran

Iranian artist Tame Werewolf released a chillwave EP called Phasermania. Keivan Hosseini is the musician behind the project mixes retrowave and vocoder sounds in interesting arrangements. At times you can hear the Persian influences in his synthpop melodies, which makes Tame Werewolf really interesting. Phasermania was released through Virtua94, a record label based in Philadelphia.

Brother. releases ‘Volume III’

Brother. released Volume III, through Handwritten Records. This is their second LP (Volume II was an EP), one that they’ve been teasing since their Don’t Worry single in 2019.

The album launches with over 500,000 streams, having released six of the eleven tracks; more than half of these plays are from Oxidate. EZ is a standout track released six months prior to the album, but this album is certainly one to explore.

We’ve added their music videos to our Puddlegum: Discovery YouTube playlist.

Beauty Queen drops ‘Hope It’s You’ single and video

Beauty Queen drops ‘Hope It’s You’ single and video

Beauty Queen released a third single, ‘Hope It’s You’, and music video from what we assume will be an album of songs through Sleep Well Records. This track is really polished, produced by Henry Moser of Henry Nowhere, and Beauty Queen’s Katie Iannitello. A banjo opens the song and appears in the chorus, giving the song a fitting emotional edge.
