Review: Kowloon – ‘Paradise’

Album art for Kowloon - Paradise

By Aaron Gollubier

Kowloon is a musician and filmmaker from Los Angeles, California with a refreshingly catchy new single Paradise. The track is a beautifully crafted combination of luscious indie/bedroom pop and electronic music.

Paradise starts with earworm keyboard plunks that carry the listener throughout the piece. A simple yet danceable 4/4 punchy drumbeat keeps the groove going. Lush synthesizers wash over the track ever so effortlessly. Clean and precise production give it an exhilarating and much needed breath of fresh air in these strange times.

Paradise is the latest single from his upcoming album Come Over. Previous singles include Walk With Me and Wake Up.

From his website:

Kowloon is a musician and filmmaker from Los Angeles, California. His debut album, ‘Come Over’, was written, performed, recorded and mixed in his home-studio in the industrial outskirts of the city. Blending vintage synths, drum machines, and bubbling bass lines with vocals inspired equally by The Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, and Sly Stone, ‘Come Over’ is 35 minutes of danceable love songs – albeit love songs set in a time of digital malaise and looming ecological catastrophe, with anxious, dread-filled lyrics that are as timely as they are post-apocalyptic.

Looking forward to hearing some more from Come Over as well as (hopefully) some accompanying music videos to give this fresh sound an invigorating visual representation.
