Vancouver Sleep Clinic has teamed up Amelia Magdalena, releasing thirty covers as Pop Goes Ambient in the past six months. They have beautifully covered Cold Play, The Weeknd, The 1975, Glass Animals, Willow, Vance Joy, and last week they released a cover of The Neighborhood’s Sweater Weather.
Seven of these singles have been pre-released with a corresponding music video filmed by Magdalena. Counting the short videos on Instagram, they have recorded thirty covers thus far, including an entire Taylor Swift album they tracked in 24 hours.
The first single of 2023 is a cover of The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights released January 20th stays true to the melodic dreamy pop we all have come to expect from Vancouver Sleep Clinic. The second single, released February 3rd is a cover of Riptide by Vance Joy. Amelia Magdalena lends her soft harmonies to fill out a wonderful blend of textures. Her voice shines through on the second verse of Riptide drawing you in to a beautiful experience.
Pop Goes Ambient released Somebody Else on December, 23 2022. It combines a sort of hip-hop beat with beautiful droning strings and instrumental arrangements. It comes after the release of Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s full length project from July 8, 2022 Fallen Paradise.
Vancouver Sleep Clinic is led by the Australian singer-songwriter Tim Bettinson. Bettinson began is career as a teenager and by the age of 17, he had already released a debut single in 2013. In 2014 he was the opening act for the British Indie-pop band London Grammar during an Australian tour.
Amelia Magdalena is an Australian photographer, filmmaker, and part time songwriter. She “uses her photography to capture the essence of what it means to reconnect with our Earth.”
In 2017 when Bettinson just turned 18 years old he left Brisbane, Australia and headed to Los Angeles to record the bands first album, Revival. He worked with Grammy-winning producer AI Shux (Jaxy-Z, Lana Del Ray) And in 2018, Vancouver Sleep Clinic landed at Bo. 14 on Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart.
