Fat Possum Records artists Lightning Bug have released a new single, The Right Thing Is Hard To Do. The imagery of their name is meant to inspire us to “bring light to each other,” and to “record the deepest experiences in the self and connect them outward.” Everything about this band exudes intention.
The single mixes gentle acoustic running through a chorus pedal, swirling guitars with rich reverb, a laidback beat, with light and dreamy vocals that sit so nicely in the mix. Their sound dances between dream pop and folk. The song addresses the difficulty of doing “the right thing” not only as individuals, but also as a society.
The right thing is hard to do
When you’ve got so much to lose
Still in fear, it’s hard to move
When you’ve got so much to prove
Doubt
Ebbs and flows
Well, I’ll let it flow..So they say they’ll build a wall
Lightning Bug – The Right Thing Is Hard To Do (BandCamp)
Of steel that rises grim and tall
And turn away those
Seeking shelter most of all
Coupled with the song is an innocent video of a mouse, animated by Melanie Kleid. Describing the video, “Meet Solomon. You know when you’re going to sleep but as you stare into the darkness the shadows shift and glow and make shapes?? that happens to Solomon too. but sometimes the shadows really take on a life of their own.”
This NYC group is led by songwriter Audrey Kang, multi-instrumentalist Kevin Copeland, and Logan Miley as the producer. We really love what this group is creating.
Their full-length A Color Of The Sky will be released June 25, 2021.
