Tapes: Orchid Mantis – ‘Midi Memory’

Orchid Mantis might not need much of an introduction. Thomas Howard of Atlanta, Georgia began this experimental project in 2014, and his music has been widely embraced. On May 20, he self-released Compositions on Midi & Tape, a six-track EP that finds Howard entrancing his listeners for 22 minutes. He has released seven EPs and five LPs in just six years, and this is his third EP in 2020.

Where Long Division (his first EP of 2020) tweaked guitar, synth, and drums/bass in digestible song structures, Compositions on Midi & Tape is an experimental, manipulated instrumental synth collection. The EP opens with a dreamy track, Midi Memory, that pulls you into this EP’s spellbinding gaze.

We’re excited to share Midi Memory as our fourth Puddlegum.tapes installment. Enjoy this tape, and spend some time with Orchid Mantis’ Compositions on Midi & Tape.

Find Midi Memory on Bandcamp, Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music, and YouTube.
